Kendrick Lamar is set to headline the Super Bowl LIX halftime show in February, and he’s bringing a powerful statement with him. “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one,” Lamar shared in a news release.

Recognized as one of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time, Lamar has proven his dominance in the music world. His recent rap feud with Drake showcased his talent, though that’s only a glimpse of his impressive body of work. With 17 Grammy wins under his belt, Lamar made history by becoming the first non-classical, non-jazz artist to win a Pulitzer Prize for his album “DAMN.” His latest release, “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers,” dropped in 2022.

Lamar’s hit song “Not Like Us” also spent two weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100.

Jay-Z, founder of Roc Nation, praised Lamar as a “once-in-a-generation” talent. “His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision,” Jay-Z stated. “He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”

Super Bowl LIX will take place on Feb. 9 at the Caesars Superdome, home of the New Orleans Saints.

The NFL and Apple Music made the official announcement just hours before the 2024 season kicked off with its first full Sunday games.
