Donald Glover has announced his decision to retire his musical alter ego, Childish Gambino, after confirming plans to release two final albums. The announcement was made during an Instagram Gilga Radio livestream on Sunday night.

During the livestream, Glover introduced the first of the upcoming albums titled “Bando Stone & the New World,” slated for release this summer. He also premiered a new, untitled song along with previously leaked tracks “Human Sacrifice” and “Little Big Foot.”

The inspiration behind these albums stems from a film project Glover is currently working on titled ‘Bando Stone & the New World’. He expressed his passion for soundtracks and how they influenced his creative process.

In addition to the new album, Glover revealed that the second release will be a reworked version of his last album, “3.15.20,” under the title “Atavista,” the original working title of the album. Despite its quick release and minimal mastering, Glover shared his personal journey and experiences that influenced the album’s creation.

Glover hinted at a tentative release schedule for both albums, emphasizing their significance to his fans. He drew inspiration from iconic soundtracks such as Prince’s “Batman” and the star-studded “Batman Forever” for the upcoming projects.

The multi-talented artist, known for his work on “Atlanta” and “Community,” has previously released four albums under the Childish Gambino persona. His critically acclaimed track “This Is America” from the album “Upbeat Summer Hits” garnered multiple Grammy Awards in 2019, including Song of the Year and Best Music Video.

Glover, who has often hinted at retiring his musical persona, explained his approach to artistic endeavors in a 2017 interview with HuffPo, emphasizing the importance of creative evolution and meaningful returns to music.
